Roofline Lighting Across Layered Gables and Dormers
A white home with layered gables, two dormers and a garage wing, outlined in warm white along every eave and rake so the roof reads as one composition.
The project
This Mountainside home has a layered roof with multiple front gables, two dormers, a lower garage wing, and several changes in height. The lighting plan needed to follow those transitions cleanly so the separate roof sections would read as one composition. We installed evenly spaced lights along the visible eaves and rakes, carrying the line across the garage wing, main elevation, dormer edges, and connecting roof sections. Each socket is clipped at the shingle edge to keep the spacing consistent around slopes and corners.
From the street, the warm-white line traces the dark roof against the white siding, board-and-batten gables, black trim, and central stone section. The continuous outline emphasizes the width of the home while keeping the design centered on its roof architecture.
The challenge
The house has more roof edges than most of its size: a steep garage gable on the left, two main front gables, two dormers set into the upper roof, a porch roof over the stone entry and rear sections that step down. Many of those edges are steep rakes, and the photos show the install was done working on the roof itself.
How we lit it
Faceted warm white C9 bulbs follow every eave and rake at one spacing, standing upright at the same angle whether the edge is level or steep. The line starts at the garage wing, climbs both front gables, outlines each dormer on all three edges and drops to the porch roof over the entry, then continues across the lower rear sections.
On the white board-and-batten facade with black trim, a single warm white line carries the design, and the windows, porch and plantings stay as they are.
The result
At sunset the bulbs pick out each peak against the autumn trees, and the dormers read as small, separate shapes above the main roofline. From the garage side the outline continues around the corner, so the house looks finished from the driveway as well.
