Roofline Lights, Wreaths, and Garland on a Cape Cod
A Cape Cod with evenly spaced lights across the eaves, gables and garage opening, plus porch-post garland and red-bow wreaths on the entry, front door and dormers.
The project
This Wyckoff Cape Cod has a long, low front elevation, a steep main roof, two dormers, and a centered covered entry. We built the layout around those lines, installing evenly spaced roofline lights across the main eaves, side sections, and gable edges. We also carried the same spacing around the garage opening. Greenery frames the entrance, with garland on the porch posts and wreaths on the entry gable, front door, and dormer windows. Red bows provide the main color accent.
From the street, the lighting follows the full width of the gray siding and white trim while the wreaths draw attention back to the center. The design reads as one balanced composition across the wide facade.
The challenge
This Cape Cod is long and low, so most of its outline runs along one level eave, and the house continues into a side wing with its own roofline. The garage faces the driveway as a plain gable end with a wide door opening, and the side and rear elevations are seen almost as much as the front.
How we lit it
We kept one warm white C9 line at the same spacing around the whole house: the front eaves of the main house and wing, the entry gable, the side gable rake and the rear eaves. At the garage, the bulbs frame the door opening itself on three sides, which turns a plain gable end into a lit frame.
At the center, lit wreaths with red velvet bows sit in both dormers, on the entry gable and on the front door, with lit garland on the porch posts, so the color gathers at the middle of the long facade.
The result
From the street the house reads as one long lit outline with a clear center at the entry. The garage frame and the side and rear eaves carry the same line, so the lighting still looks complete from the driveway and from the back of the property.
